How are you incorporating AI into your underwriting, surveillance, or portfolio management workflows?

While still in early stages, we are beginning to employ various AI Tools such as Co-Pilot and other third-party programs to assist in the multiple stages of a deal life-cycle but most pronounced in asset management and re-underwritings. Additionally, surveillance monitors, draw monitors (especially for transitional loans or construction) and tools related to senior financing (back-leverage) are helping streamline investment reporting and investor relations related tasks.

How are you incorporating AI into your underwriting, surveillance, or portfolio management workflows?

This is a great question. AI is helpful tool in our industry for processing and summarizing information and we expect its relevance to grow over time. With that said, we have a very hands-on and people-driven approach for these tasks. However, it is something we’re watching very closely.

It’s a pretty fluid process and we are in the early stages. We found that AI is doing really well at data extraction at scale and we use it to save us time during the less critical stages of our process. The goal would be to combine AI and automation at stages that lead up to decisions, allowing our teams to stay focused on what matters and not on menial tasks. With regards to surveillance and portfolio management, we are working on building better data habits, so that ultimately we will be able to incorporate AI to proactively flag potential concerns or inconsistencies where our people should focus to resolve.
